What is an EA?

An Enrolled Agent (or EA) is a federally authorized tax practitioner empowered by the U.S. Department of Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential awarded by the IRS. To earn this status, one must adhere to ethical standards and complete 72 hours of continuing education courses every three years.

EA’s have unlimited practice rights (like CPAs) and they are authorized to practice in every state.
